Kunekune, pronounced “kooney kooney”, is Maori for “fat and round,” which describes their typically short and round-bodied appearance. They are the only truly grazing pig, being able to survive on grasses alone.
The Kunekune pig, originally kept by Maoris in New Zealand, are friendly hairy pigs born in various colours. It is the smallest domesticated breed of pig globally, a firm favourite among pet pig owners due to its calm, friendly nature and love of human company. Being an older breed that has been untouched by commercial breeding systems, they have a lot of diversity and are extremely healthy.
We are breeding for breeding quality stock, pets, and meat production.
As a heritage breed, the KuneKune meat is RED and deeply marbled, almost like fine steak. They get the majority of their diet from pasture and live their life outside, therefore their pork has a premium texture and taste. They are known as a fat or lard breed, which means they also produce fine lard which can be used in cooking, baking and soap making.
We had 2 lovely litters of purebred Kunekune piglets from Petunia (Halcyonia Tapeka 1) and Leilei (NOVA Tapeka 11) on April 10th! We have a guilt from each sow of breeding quality available. We had another litter born August 23rd. Litters are sired by our boar, Wiley (Komorebi Andrew 2).
Piglets are available!
